Some notes about the Bologna Process at ETSIIT

The University of Granada is in the process of changing degrees to conform to the Bologna Process. The new degrees in Informatics and Telecommunications are offered from 2010/2011. It means that

  • The courses in the “old” degrees will progresively not be offered (from 2010/2011 we DON'T OFFER the courses in the 1st. year, from 2011/2012 the courses in the 1st. and 2nd. year, in 2012/2013 we WILL NOT OFFER the courses in the 1st. 2nd. and 3th. year, ...)
  • “new” courses will progresively be offered (from 2010/2011 we offer the courses in the 1st. year, from 2011/2012 the courses in the 1st. and 2nd. year, in 2012/2013 we WILL OFFER the courses in the 1st. 2nd. and 3th. year ...)
  • Master (Bologna) courses and projects will not be offered until 2014/2015. ETSIIT, however, offers some Master programs and post-graduate programs for PhD. students. Master courses (in the actual format) and Ph.D. courses are out of our direct control and students interested in such courses must contact with us (etsi2doc@ugr.es) in order to study its availability.

Courses at ETSIIT

Courses are taught in spanish.

The courses in the “old” degrees are measured in spanish credits. 1 Spanish credit = 10 hours (lectures or laboratory, mastered by a teacher). This is a different measurement system to ECTS.

Courses can be:

  • “Anual”: the whole academic year.
  • “Cuatrimestral”: Only one period or term.
    • “Primer cuatrimestre” or “cuatrimestre 1” (1st term) will start in the end-September or beg-October and will finish in mid-February (including exams).
    • “Segundo cuatrimestre” or “cuatrimestre 2” (2nd term) will start in mid-February and will finish in mid-July (including exams).

The workload associated to a full academic year is approximately 75 spahish credits, but id depends on the year of studies and the degree. Given that a full academic year in the new degrees consists of 60 ECTS, you can think that 1 ECTS approx. 1,25 spanish credits. This is not, however, a good conversion factor as in the old degrees we don´t take into account the student´s work and study.

Our recommendation for partner Universities is to use the one-to-one conversion factor.

Students coming to our Faculty (E.T.S. de Ingenierias Informatica y de Telecomunicacion) can take any course offered by our Faculty no matter the student´s specialization.

Incoming students in 2012/2013:

You ONLY can take courses offered in the 4th., and 5th, year of the “old” degrees.
  • Catalogue of subjects in Computer Science Engineering - 5 years degree
  • Catalogue of subjects in Telecommunication Engineering - 5 years degree
  • NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE: Catalogue of subjects in Computer Science Tech. Engineering (Systems Design)- 3 years degree
  • NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE: Catalogue of subjects inComputer Science Tech. Engineering (Management) - 3 years degree
  • Find a detailed description of the “new” courses (in spanish) in:

Incoming students in 2012/2013:

You ONLY can take courses offered in the 1st., 2nd. and 3th, year of the “new” degrees.
  • You can also choose any module from the Catálogo de Libre Configuración (free configuration catalogue).

These are subjects from any of the degrees offered at the Universidad de Granada. Keep in mind that these subjects have a limited number of seats, so, it can be complete if you register too late. We can not book a placce for you in advance, and you will get a seat when you will be registered at ETSIIT.

Grading system

Most of the courses offered at our faculty have a double examination systems; theoretical test and course works (labs works mainly).

The first is an -written- exam based on the theory given in the lectures. The course works are, in most of the cases, compulsory and are usually a lab project that the student must do by himself of in group.

The value of any of these parts depends on the course. The numerical mark is a number between 0.0 and 10.0 and the student must get more than 5.0 to pass the course:

MARK GRADE ECTS GRADE
10.0 (only 5% of the whole) MATRICULA DE HONOR A+ EXCELLENT
10.0 SOBRESALIENTE A EXCELLENT
9.0-9.9 SOBRESALIENTE B VERY GOOD
7.0-8.9 NOTABLE C GOOD
6.0-6.9 APROBADO D SATISFACTORY
5.0-5.9 APROBADO E PASS
0.0-4.9 SUSPENSO F FAIL
NO PRESENTADO Did not take the exam

If a student pass the subject (theoretical+labs), then gets the number of credits associated to the course.
