Courses at ETSIIT. Grading System

Granada University uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and, according to this, the different degrees we offer at ETSIIT are:

Bachelor’s degrees, which consist of 240 ECTS credits, distributed in 4 years of 60 ECTS credits each.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering

Bachelor’s double degrees, which have 360 ECTS credits, distributed in 4 years of 72 ECTS credits each.

  • Double Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics

  • Double Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and in Business Administration and Management

Master’s degrees:

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, which consists of 72 ECTS credits in 1 year.

  • Master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering, which consists of 120 ECTS credits in 2 years (60 ECTS credits each one).

Therefore, the typical number of credits for an academic year is 60 to 72 credits and the average workload is 1500 to 1800 hours (one ECTS credit corresponds to 25 hours of work, including lectures, seminars, homework and exercises). Each course consists of 1 to 15 ECTS credits according to its contents.

Language of instruction is Spanish for all courses (ETSIIT does not impose any linguistic requirement for incoming students in Bachelor’s degrees, but a B1 in Spanish is strongly recommended). For Master’s degrees, an accreditation of Spanish language is required (see in International School for Postgraduate Studies ).

Courses can be:

  • “Anual”: the whole academic year.
  • “Cuatrimestral”: Only one semester or term (most of ETSIIT courses are of this type).
    • “Primer cuatrimestre” or “cuatrimestre 1” (1st semester or 1st term) will start by the end of September and will finish mid-February (including exams).
    • “Segundo cuatrimestre” or “cuatrimestre 2” (2nd semester or 2nd term) will start mid-February and will finish mid-July (including exams).

All the workload is measured in ECTS, with most courses comprising 6 ECTS. The usual workload for a semester is 30 ECTS, or 60 ECTS for a full academic year.

Exchange students at ETSIIT- UGR can take any course offered by our Faculty (only Bachelor or Master depending on the type of student), no matter the student´s specialization (but for a few exceptions that will be noted to you during the on-line application process in case you selected them).

Most of the courses offered at ETSIIT have a double examination system; theoretical test and course works (lab work mainly).

The first is an -usually written- exam based on the contents of the lectures. The course works are, in most of the cases, compulsory and usually consist of lab projects that the student must carry out either individually or in group.

The value of any of these parts depends on the course. The final numerical grade is a number between 0.0 and 10.0 and the student must get more than 5.0 to pass the course:

MARK GRADE ECTS GRADE
10.0 (only for max. 5% of registered students) MATRICULA DE HONOR A EXCELLENT
10.0 SOBRESALIENTE A EXCELLENT
9.0-9.9 SOBRESALIENTE B VERY GOOD
7.0-8.9 NOTABLE C GOOD
6.0-6.9 APROBADO D SATISFACTORY
5.0-5.9 APROBADO E SUFFICIENT
0.0-4.9 SUSPENSO F FAIL
NO PRESENTADO DID NOT TAKE THE EXAM

If a student pass the course (>5.0 for the set of theoretical test and course work), then gets the whole number of credits associated to the course. It is not possible to get a partial number of credits, and the course as a whole has to be passed.
